Supreme Sarcasm

“If we do discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable in broad principle by everyone, not just a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists, and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason — for then we would know the mind of God.” From his book, ‘A brief history of time’, Words of none other than Stephen Hawking, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a lifetime member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge, Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and a Distinguished Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario.

“Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! … What is the way to the abode of light? And where does darkness reside? Can you take them to their places? Do you know the paths to their dwellings? Surely you know, for you were already born! You have lived so many years!” … From the book of Job, with a hint of sarcasm questioning Job out of a storm, words of GOD, Architect of the Earth and the universe, the inventor of time and seasons, the creator of everything else, and on and on…

The war on qualifications ends in pretty much one sided victory. Of course I don’t understand this jabber about the theory of everything, string theory, loop theory and a bunch of mathematical formulas which some prove this way and the others the other way in a quest to win the race to unite quantum mechanics with general relativity. So clearly I’m biased to the latter, not only because it is simple English, but also because it’s from an author who writes from a universe where the dimension of time ceases to exist. What amazes me in the text from the book of Job is God’s sarcasm. When we see a documentary on National Geographic or Discovery we often notice that many of the subject matter experts are pretty aged. It is an irrefutable fact that aged people have a lot of experience and have seen a lot in their respective fields which makes them see stuff in a very different perspective altogether. May it be a political situation or any other area for that matter. The younger generation would most probably have a very shallow and feeble defense for their argument. God almighty is incredulous about how loosely man speaks about things they do not understand. I really hate when people exaggerate about something and speak as if they know it in and out; when I know that the something they are talking about is nothing at all. The Almighty is used to this from the beginning of times. He has seen men believe that the earth was flat and how they feared to sail far into the sea in the fear of falling off the edge of the earth. The master designer has also rejoiced when men finally came to their senses and believed that it was round all along.

God works in ways which are beyond what the human brain could possibly comprehend. Ways that formed everything from nothingness, ways that cannot be defined by mathematical equations or theories. Mankind has come a long way, right from where he was learning numbers to the place where he is in pursuit of discovering the reason behind the existence of everything with complex equations and mind blowing theorems. What would it take for men to believe that certain things are beyond their intellectual reach?

Even though I respect the intellectual of this world, I’d rather believe the straightforward words of my master designer, than an intricate hypothetical manmade formula which supposedly would bring to light the reason for my existence!
